Reorganization of the Ashland Senior Program

The Ashland Senior Program, a division of Ashland Parks & Recreation Commission (APRC), will be reorganized over the next several months in an effort to better serve those who are 55 and older in Ashland, and to research ways to increase revenue and ensure the Program’s resiliency for years to come.
The main functions of the current Senior Program include:
1. Food & Friends Lunch Program – a congregate meal program each weekday at the Center run by the Rogue Valley Council of Governments.
2. Various drop-in offerings, such as Mah Jongg, Cribbage, Tai Chi, senior yoga and weekly movies.
3. Energy Assistance Programs – Ashland Low Income Energy Assistance Program (ALIEP), HEAT and senior discounts on utilities.
The reorganization of the Ashland Senior Program will begin on October 1, 2017, and continue through at least December 31, 2017 (or one fiscal quarter). They will focus on expanding and enhancing the Program for Ashland’s 55+ population, given current resources. The Senior Program operations and staffing will be reduced but core service will not be affected. All functions of the Program will remain at the Ashland Senior Center. The Food & Friends Lunch Program will continue as usual (Monday through Friday, from 11:30 a.m to 12:30 p.m.), as well as any Rec programs scheduled and published in the APRC Community PlayGuide, provided instructors are available.
Social services programs, such as ALIEP, bus passes and HEAT, will continue through a combination of efforts from City of Ashland staff and APRC staff. Questions regarding social services or the Ashland Senior Program may be directed to 541.488.5340 or by email to APRC will form an official subcommittee of the Commission. In addition, an ad hoc Senior Advisory Committee will be formed, comprised of program participants, related professional field experts, APRC staff and Commissioners. Both committees will help form the vision for the future of the Ashland Senior Program.
The Ashland Senior Center is located at 1699 Homes Ave. More information on the Center can be found at General questions can be directed to 541.488.5340 or by email to
